District Commissioner: Mr. Jonathan Platt
URMSTON & DISTRICT SCOUT COUNCIL
LATEST NEWS FROM FELLOWSHIP
Urmston Scout Fellowship are pleased with the continuing growth in their membership and welcome new members from all walks of life. A past District Commissioner was heard to say :-
“The Fellowship is of great benefit to Scouting in
Urmston and District”.
Would you like to join them too?
Contact the District Secretary to find out how.
What is the Scout Fellowship?
It is a group of adults who have one thing in common - a wish to support Scouting. A Scout Fellowship welcomes men and women of all ages, interests and backgrounds. There is no need to have been involved in Scouting or Guiding before, all that is required is a willingness to give some of your time to Scouting. In return you will make friends and be able to join in with others doing whatever you decide.
A Scout Fellowship has its own social and activity programme.
See below for a list of activities for the Current Year
The aim of the Scout Fellowship is to “Provide Active Support”, with the emphasis being very much on supporting the youth programme in an active manner, at all levels of the Association from the local Scout Group to National level.
So what do we mean by “Active Support”?
Active Support encompasses the talents of the Scout Fellowship of all ages and abilities, whether it is physical, mental, geared to a particular technical skill or general support. It could be as a badge examiner, a Training Adviser to new leaders, catering for courses, running pioneering courses, assisting with hill walking, rock climbing etc. We all have something to offer as far as supporting Scouting is concerned whatever our age or ability.
In fact, “active support” means just about everything!
The Scout Fellowship is a large part of the ‘backbone’ of the Scout Movement - supporting the young people and voluntary leaders wherever help is required. The key to our success is our flexibility - we’re here to help.
If you want to actively support Scouting by joining the Scout Fellowship, contact our District Secretary for further details.

The FELLOWSHIP in Urmston & District
Urmston and District Fellowship, like many others, is built on the above ideals and is open to anyone over the age of eighteen years. It’s members work to help the District whenever and wherever they are needed. Their monthly meetings are usually of a social nature as that is what promotes good relations. The planning committee meets every March and works out a programme for the year.
Events for the current year are listed below. Why not come and join us?
SCOUT ACTIVE SUPPORT
In January 2011 (or maybe earlier in some Districts) the name “Scout Active Support” will replace the name “Fellowship”. It has been recognised that the Fellowship has played an important role in The Scout Association for over 30 years and Scout Active Support will continue this tradition. The new name is to reflect what the Fellowship do best - provide great support to local Scouting. Glenn Walker, UK Adviser, Scout Active Support said “As a concept, active support is not something new, and it is essential that we keep the elements that are working well from Fellowship”.
There will be reports here in the months to come as to how this changeover is taking place in Urmston & District with details of how the Scout Active Support Members can help you.
