Who are Explorer Scouts?
Explorer Scouts are young people between the ages of fourteen and eighteen. They meet regularly and as often as the leaders and members of the Explorer Scout Unit decide usually at a Scout Group Headquarters with whom they will have a partnership agreement but their membership is with the District. The Unit meetings will be guided by the Explorer Scout Leader and Unit Assistants.
The Explorer Scout Unit Balanced Programme.
The Unit will undertake a balanced programme of activities with the aim of achieving the Chief Scout’s Diamond and Platinum Awards. There will also be opportunities to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Queen’s Scout Award. Members of the Unit will be allocated a personal mentor who will oversee their training. A member of the Unit could also be a Young Leader in another Scout Section. It is expected that unit members will work in conjunction with the Leader(s) to put their programme together in order to develop the qualities of team leadership and responsibility for personnel development.
It is expected that the programme will involve a greater number of outdoor activities and those of a more adventurous nature. The balanced programme can continue into membership of the Scout Network from the age of eighteen years.
Support is available to the Explorer Scout Section from the District Explorer Scout Commissioner and the County Explorer Scout Commissioners.
Adult Training is available in a variety of ways to meet specific training needs.
