District News is produced and circulated to keep all the District aware of the activities that are occurring and of proposed events of interest to other Groups.

Items to be included in District News should be submitted to Derek Freeman at least four days before the end of the month so that it can be distributed at the end of the month.

SCOUTING CONTINUES TO EXPAND

Nationally our numbers are up again for the fifth year in succession.
Beavers up 4.6%   Cubs up 1.6%.   Scouts up 3.8%    Explorers up 8.5%  Network up 11.3% Adults 4.1%

Membership in this country is 499,323 with 33,500 on waiting lists.
There are now 66,000 teenagers involved
With 60,000 girl members.
The success is put down to the varied activities,
Good quality programmes for young people,
A more relevant programme for teenagers,
Inspiring Leadership at every level,
Flexible volunteering,
Making new friends,
Better joining systems,
Being focused on what we do,
A range of outdoor activities,
Positive local and national coverage,
Being clear about who we are and what we do.

District A.G.M. Tuesday 13th July 2010

All members of the District Scout Council are invited to attend at the John Alker Hall, Flixton Road, Flixton, commencing at 8pm..
The format will be the same as usual with a short business section then a buffet followed by a presentation of Group activities by those involved. A pay bar will be available.
County Omega Survival Weekend

This will be at Giants Seat Camp, Radcliffe 10th to 12th September 2010.
The first part will be training in survival and the second part a competition involving building bivvies and backwoods cooking.
There are fuller details available from Tony Sant from Sale District. Alternatively ask Derek our District Secretary to email a copy of access and the location of the site and further information on the facilities.
County Hiking Competition 26th September
This will be a combined Scout and Explorer Scout event to be held over the Ashton area of Wigan.
Overnight accommodation is being investigated.
This space is available for reports of activities you have enjoyed with your Group.

Please submit reports to the Editor, our District Secretary and space permitting, will be included. Please keep brief, highlighting the activities you enjoyed or sites you can recommend to other Groups.

County Scout Camping Competition
25th to 27th June

SCOUTS
2nd Davyhulme Scouts won first place out of the 7 teams entered
2nd Davyhulme scouts won second place in the county backwoods cooking held at the same time

EXPLORER SCOUTS

1st Flixton (Loki) Explorer unit first place in the county camping competition
2nd Davyhulme (DAKOTA) Explorer Unit gained second place in the county camping competition
2nd Davyhulme Explorer unit won first place in the county backwoods cooking
 
It is thought that there were 5-6 teams overall in the Explorer Scout section

This information came in just as DISTRICT NEWS was being printed. Hopefully more news next month.
